Alcohol Abuse

It has been suggested that about 1 in 10 people use alcohol inappropriately. This may impact on fitness for work and performance at work. In safety-critical jobs this is of particular concern.

Fortunately, there are a variety of sources of information about alcohol abuse and help is available. In the UK, the following sites may be of help:

  • Alcohol Concern
  • Institute of Alcohol  Studies
  • Alcohol and Alcoholism
  • Drinksense
  • Medical Council on Alcoholism
  • Portman Group
  • How to Find Alcoholics Anonymous
  • Nottingham Alcohol and Drug Team.
  • Alcohol Problems Advisory Service

The National Institute on Alcohol Abuse and Alcoholism is an American site with additional information.

The HEALTHY MEDICAL SCHOOL project of Newcastle University provides useful information for medical students and others.
